The founder of EXCALIBUR R&D, LLC, Ed "Otto" Pernotto, was a proud bomber crewmember during the 80's. During the Cold War, Strategic Air Command bomber and tanker aircrews, missileers, security police, and many other personnel, stood 24 hour a day, 365 days a year alert posture prepared to respond at a moment's notice. Whether it was a practice exercise or the real thing, loud sirens known as Klaxon’s were distributed throughout the base to sound the call to personnel. These so called "horns" sent the aircrews running and driving to their aircraft to prepare to launch in advance of a potential attack on our country. In areas like the movie theater or church, a silent sign flashed the word "Klaxon" allowing the response required.
While EXCALIBUR will have a normal day to day function, we see an important component being able to provide real world, real time support during a crisis situation. In the wake of crisis events such as the September 11th 2001 attacks, the bombing of the Murrah building in Oklahoma City, or even the DC snipers, Americans not involved in national or homeland security might very well be able to provide a nugget of information or even detailed analysis assisting the authorities to resolve the situation or at least more quickly start down a path of discovery.
We will build "templates" to help rapidly resolve situations collaboratively and hope this support may prove extremely during a crisis. This is one area where input will be extremely crucial and we will seek your advice and expertise as we create and continually refine this capability. On occasion, probably in conjunction with actual events unfolding somewhere in the world or perhaps in conjunction with a military exercise, we will declare a "Test Klaxon" to help refine our techniques for a real world event.
During a real world event where we are under contract to support or just decide to help, all of our day to day activities will come to a halt as “all hands” will be used to work the crisis. We will send out alerts to our network informing them of the decision and hope to provide agile, innovative, and collaborative support.
