h/t to LtCol P @ Opfor here and Matt at Blackfive here. This story in the Times Online tells the fantastic story of an Operation called Tsuka which means Eagles Summit and this operation was designed to move a massive turbine to the Kajaki Dam, one of the few major resources Afghanistan has. The Kajaki Dam provides much of the electricity for the people of Afghanistan and the British troops had to move a convoy of over 100 vehicles over desert to avoid the Taliban. They even staged a brilliant deception by clearing the normal route to make the Taliban think they were going one way with a massive head fake and then drove across the desert at speeds as low as 2 miles an hour.
This was the first major operation the British Parachute Regiment had done as a unit since WW II. As Sun Tzu said, “all war is deception.” Well done to all the troops in this operation!
