Spc. Nathan Waddell and Spc. Kristopher Hammond, Bravo Company, 864th Engineer Battalion, Fort Lewis Wash., work on anchoring the stairwell that will lead to an outpost in the middle of the eastern Afghan mountains Jan. 15.
Copied from CJTF-82 website here. You know, when you are thinking about fixing that rickety back porch step or you want to do some home improvements around the house, and maybe it’s too cold, or too hot, or perhaps a little too tough, think about these guys. These photos show Engineers from Bravo Company, 864th Engineer Battalion, Fort Lewis putting up an outpost in the mountains of Afghanistan. Note, these men are not wearing Tim “the toolman” Taylor aprons, and they aren’t enjoying a beer while doing these repairs. These guys are jocked up, while building a new observation position to help the Afghan people maintain their fragile government.
As you contemplate what it would be like to build structures in some seriously cold weather, on the top of a mountain, notice the body armor and ready magazines. And thank these soldiers for serving their country and their families at home. Enjoy these photos and imagine what it would be like.
