In a week, the President of the United States will present a medal to a native of New York City, that decoration, the Medal of Honor given in the name of Congress, is rarely given. The last four recipients did not live to ever wear it around their neck. As of today, the “paper of record” “the Grey Lady” the paper of “All the news that’s fit to print” has ignored this news story while every other New York newspaper has done a story about the sacrifice, bravery, and giving of the life of Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael Murphy. As the linked article says:
-
One Medal of Honor recipient, Col. Jack Jacobs of Morris County, N.J., who fought in Vietnam, said, "You'd think it would be fairly substantial news that ought to get reported. It's kind of troubling that it's not."
Meanwhile, the NY Times obsesses about Blackwater, Al Gore’s Nobel Award, prints the "General Betray us ad" and even has a story about an Iraqi stringer for the Washington Post’s death in Iraq. But no story about an American hero and NYC native. What I found out recently via the Powerline Blog here was that the red patch worn on Murphy’s DCU’s was a patch from a New York City Firehouse Engine 53/ Ladder 43 called El Barrios’ Bravest. They have a tribute site to Murphy here.
The New York Times is despicable. We at EXCALIBUR will always salute our heroes: whether they be Navy SEALs or firefighters.
Stay safe out there....
