Interpol and the "internets" on the hunt for a sexual predator

When he thought he was sneaky          maybe not so now....

You may have seen the 60 Minutes story about Interpol, the international police agency now headed by an American.  They featured an image of a child molester, a man who had used a computer program to “spin” his face on the image, swirling it making it unrecognizable.  Thanks to the Germany's federal police agency, the Bundeskriminalamt, working with Interpol's trafficking in human beings unit, they unscrambled the images. Looks like the guy has been IDed by numerous reports and he’s believed to be on the run in Thailand.

From Interpol’s website:

  •  LYON, France – The man photographed sexually abusing young children in Vietnam and Cambodia (Vico) in images posted on the Internet has been identified following a massive global response to INTERPOL’s appeal and is now believed to be in Thailand.
As a result of information provided to INTERPOL by five different sources from three continents, the suspected child abuser labelled 'Vico,' was identified as a man teaching English at a school in South Korea.
Within three days of the appeal, working with its National Central Bureaus around the world INTERPOL had also established the suspect's name, nationality, date of birth, passport number, and current and previous places of work.

Pretty awesome: put the information (in this case an image out there) and let the internets work their magic.  Collaboration, innovative use of computers, let the public help out, hmmmm….where have you heard this before?
