Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Awards: Jeff Han's multitouch wall

I’ve changed my mind on what I want Santa to bring, the problem is, my new toy is pretty unaffordable at 100K.  I recently wrote about Microsoft’s new computer product called Surface here.  Well, Popular Mechanics has their Breakthrough awards and one of them is a new Multitouch media wall by Jeff Han. This is a true interactive, collaborative device and I REALLY hope the price of this, like the price of DVD’s and HD TV technology comes down fast.  I really, REALLY like this idea.  Watch the short video here, this is some impressive stuff.

We are seeing, not only in our lifetime, but in this decade, technology that will change everything.  In various briefings I have given trying to get Excalibur going, I have often cited the movie Minority Report which is supposed to be looking at the year 2054.  Steven Spielberg might have been off by a decade or so…

Now talking about technology and advancements, watch this video (h/t Danger Room) about a morphing UAV that can walk, fly, and react, video here.  As our advisor SEAL/Astronaut Bill Shepherd wrote me earlier today, imagine if this thing could refuel itself via say solar power or munching on a biofuel for additional power, as Shep said: “rise of the machines!”
